Another point, I work with people designing new websites. The problem here is when I ask them what will set them apart. They are basically designing the same site with a new name at the top...Woopee! I guess they think that people will come just because they brought up a site! Some thriller that is!
To change a qoute -- "Get away marketer, you bother me!"
Dave (Koyofur)'s last blog post..You saw a what?? Yep, I saw a ____ of ____ going down the road and into the bar!!!
You're SO right!
I get those calls from network representatives once or twice a week as well and they're totally lame. Stupidly, they all start the same way --- "What can we do to get you to promote more of our offers?"
Do these guys know anything about marketing? How about starting with an answer to the question "What's in it for me?" which would stop me from responding "Do you have any clue as to what I promote?". Sheesh, like THAT's the world's biggest secret. I made it really simple for them, and while most have my book on their desks or in their offices, my bet is that they've never cracked the binding. Their loss.
That said, there are some really good operators out there ... ShareResults would be the first one that comes to mind for me.
Cheers,
Ros

Being on the merchant side we get similar offers to join up from the dozens of networks that are out there, yet none of them can give us a real reason to do so. I mean, you can't honestly tell me that there are any larger affiliates out there who are working with some new, random CPA network who don't have an account with a major network as well.
I really have a hard time understanding why anyone would get into the CPA network business at this point unless they have some mind blowingly remarkable point of differentiation. And that doesn't mean innovations like "naked links" - I'm talking something that will be loved by affiliates and merchants alike.
Anyway, good vid. Hopefully these companies are listening.
I have to say that as an AM myself with a pretty young program I've yet to really dive into the courtship of "super affiliates" because I already know that the same old card or email isn't going to cut it. I have been trying to come up with something fresh and really eye catching and until I have a really spectacular idea I'm not going to even attempt to approach the big clients. I'd rather stand out as a first impression than be lost in the sea of lame attempts before getting it right.
It's a tough world for publishers and merchants as everything is changing, so it's good for someone like you to be honest and really challenge people to be innovative and take the bull by the horns. I'm enjoying the show as always.
Thanks for info on BANS Ros. Horrible name for a product though?
Trish, At least you realize that normal isn't going to cut it. Good luck to you.
