This carries over to Digg as well. The way that Digg handles friends leaves a lot to be desired. There's really no benefit to friending a person on Digg other than to spam them with Shouts advertising whatever you want them to Digg up. For this reason, I carefully examine the friend requests I get through Digg. Most that I get show recent activity of friending several hundred people at once and sending the same shout to each of them ("Check out this great story: www.digg.com/some_dumb_story_about_cats")
