Jim Kukral: Idea Of The Day: Video Sharing Test Samples

  • Jon Ray · 2 years ago
Wow, I wouldn't mind having an application like that, as well. For the time being though, BlipTV seems to be the best quality video hosting server that I've found. A lot of the other video sites distort your footage or audio based on your compression settings. Here's a really good lens for encoding video for YouTube and a good start for any online video platform. Of course, the better your video looks in its raw format, the better it will look once encoded. So, good lighting, a steady camera with little shake and good audio from the start is recommended. I'm liking your new video cast and that camera looks pretty sweet and hyper compact. Nice!

Thanks for the link Jon, awesome information. Will try it out. Metacafe looks pretty good too, compared to blip.

When will Youtube encoding get better?

Just did some more testing. In my opinion, Metacafe video is looking the best, even over Blip.

Good to know. I think a lot of it has to do with the type of codec you use to compress your video. Different codecs work better with different video sharing sites. Which brings us back to your original post, "It would be nice to have a tool that could allow me to “compare” the same video sample uploaded to all the major video portals, allowing me to see which one looks the best."

Yes, that would be nice. :)
